Home Study Approved

Our final documents were received at our home study office a few weeks ago and we received word on Friday October 30th that our agency had reviewed the document and approved it.  Next week we will receive copies of the final notarized document.  This will start a whole new set of processes including sending our our I800a.

The I-800A is the first form you will fill out with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). This form is completed in order to start the international adoption process in order to adopt a child who lives within a Hague Convention country. The I-800A form along with other documents are required in order for the USCIS to determine your eligibility to adopt a Convention child.

Once the I800A has been submitted will be waiting for a letter in the mail giving us an appointment to get our fingerprints done.  This letter has been taking a few weeks from submission and fingerprint appointment about a week from when the letter is received.  Once fingerprints are done they I800A form is approved usually within a few days of the fingerprint appointment.  This step should take about 30 days from submission to approval.  During this time we will be taking documents that have been notarized to the secretary of state office in Centerpoint mall to be certified.  The certifying process basically states that the notary that signed the documents is legit.  Once the documents are certified we can send them to the Consulate in Chicago via a courier to be authenticated.

This is the next 1-2 months of processes in front of us.  It is exciting to be moving on to the next step and to have the home study completed.
