Camping

On Sunday June 13th our family headed to Spring Lake Campground in Kalamazoo to start a week of camping. This was our first experience camping as a family. Luckily for us Trey's parents have a nice trailer that they let us use for the week. (I would not have been camping otherwise). Trey had taken vacation days for Monday and Friday and the other three days it was going to be just me and the girls during the day until Trey got back from work. Our camp site was right next to the playground which worked out great. Cecelia could play all day and I could stay close to the trailer with Eloise but still be able to see Cecelia at all times. The weather was good on Monday and Tuesday with overcast skies and temps in the mid 70's. Grandma and Grandpa Jaarsma came to visit on Tuesday and brought us lunch. We had a really good storm on Tuesday night which kept us inside the trailer. Luckily Uncle Mike, Aunt Vicki and Uncle Steve happened to be out at the campground just before the storm hit and were able to help us get the trailer awning put away and stuff outside covered up. Wednesday morning we woke up to wet grounds and decided it would be a good day to bring some laundry home and have the girls take a nice nap in their own beds. It also worked out that Trey was able to meet us at the house after work and we all drove back to the campground together. The grounds had dried by then and we were able to hang out by the fire for the night. Thursday was another nice day with sunshine and 80's. Friday was very hot. Trey's sister and her girls arrived late on Thursday night and we were able to hang out with them on Friday. The kids took advantage of the pool while Eloise and I tried to stay cool. Later in the afternoon Trey blow up Cecelia's swimming pool and filled it up by the trailer and the girls had fun cooling off in the pool while the adults watched from the shade. Trey's parents also came up for the afternoon. Just before we left word of another large thunderstorm came around the campground and everyone started preparing trailers. We headed home just in time as the rain started on our way out.

It was a nice week. Not sure if we will attempt a week of camping with the girls any time again soon, but it was fun none the less and something different to do.
