Memorial Weekend

We had a very busy but fun memorial weekend. At the last minute (Thursday night) we decide to bring the girls to Shedd's Aquarium in Chicago. We booked a hotel room for Friday night and head to Chicago when Trey got home from work. We arrived at the Fairfield Inn in downtown Chicago around 9:30p Chicago time and settled into our room.

It was not the easiest night trying to get two girls to sleep in an unfamiliar place with us all in the same room. The hotel supplied us with a crib for Eloise and Cecelia slept with us in the king size bed. In the morning we got up, dressed, packed and headed down for a complimentary breakfast. With bellies full and ready for a day of fun we checked out of the hotel and started on our way to the aquarium. We had a slight hiccup in our plans as we thought the hotel was only a mile away from the aquarium and we had planned on leaving our car at the hotel parking and walking to the aquarium. We learned that it was more like 3 miles away so we took a taxi instead which worked out well. I was a little apprehensive about taking the taxi since the girls did not have car seats but I guess people do it all the time. Just seemed very weird to me but we made it safely to the aquarium around 10am. Trey had bought a package at the hotel so we already had our tickets and could bypass the line. The package also included a stuffed penguin that Cecelia received when we arrived at the hotel. Penguin has joined puppy in her daily play and sleep. We had a great time at the aquarium. We stayed until about 2pm and Cecelia was worn out. We had seen all types of fish, turtles, star fish, octopus, penguins, dolphins, sharks and so much more. We saw the Fantasea show and ate lunch while we were there. Knowing that Cecelia needed a nap we decided to walk back to the hotel to allow her to sleep a bit. The walk back was great as were were able to walk along the lake for a good portion of it. We got back to the hotel around 4:30, found our car and head back home exhausted but having had a great day watching the excitement of Cecelia with every new thing see saw.

Sunday was another busy day. We were scheduled for nursery at church and then were heading to spend the day at Spring Lake Campground in Kalamazoo where Trey's parents were staying. Since we got home so late on Saturday Trey stayed home with Cecelia on Sunday to unpack and repack while Eloise and I went to nursery. After we got home from church we hit the road again. It was a hot day at the campground but so much fun for Cecelia. The campsite was right next too the playground and Cecelia had a riot playing on it. We also went up to the pool for a short time and Cecelia was able to get her first swim in for the year. With how hot it was the pool was very refreshing. We came back to the campsite for an early dinner and Cecelia went back to the playground. Later we decide to try our luck at miniature golf. Cecelia was so funny. She did try to hit the ball and did pretty good. I told her she needed to hit it into the hole so she picked up her ball set it about 4 inches away from the hole and then hit it in and got all excited. It was so funny. We stayed for a bonfire and smores and then headed back home with another very tired girl.

Luckily Monday was a day of no plans and it rained most of the day giving us a good reason to have a day of well needed rest before the week started.
