Fourth of July Weekend

We spent the weekend of the fourth up north. We left early Friday morning and stopped at our friends the Veldheer's cottage in Lake City. We had a great afternoon there hanging out on the dock. Trey and I even did a little tubing behind the boat. It has been years since I have done that. Cecelia sat in the boat with Mary and watched us. We tried to get her to ride on the tube with us but her mind was made up that she was not doing it. After tubing Trey got a lesson in wake boarding and then gave it a shot. He got up in 4 tries and then proceed to get up a few times after that. He was definitely feeling it though throughout the weekend. Cecelia fell asleep on the boat and didn't get to watch him which may have been a good thing since I am not sure how she would have reacted to see him fall down and go underwater. Eloise was taking a nap inside during our boating adventure. After boating, Cecelia played in the sand and water with Megan (she has babysat Cecelia a couple of times) while the adults relaxed on the deck. We continued on our drive north around dinner time and got to Boyne City around 8:30p. My Aunt Kay and Uncle Jim have a very nice cottage in Boyne City right on Lake Charlevoix and are very generous to let us come and visit during the holiday weekends. Trey and I have been going up there since we have been dating and always have a great time. Cecelia had a great time playing in the sand and water, chancing the dogs around, being entertained by all the older kids, getting her first manicure and even walking the stairs and the trail for the first time. Eloise always had a lap to sit on and someone willing to hold her. She tried out the water for the first time but was not in to it at all. Even the kiddie pool wasn't her thing. I think we need to start getting her into more water then just her bath. The days were great but the nights proved otherwise. I think the girls had so much fun that they wanted to get up really early to make sure they got the whole day in and by early I mean 6am! This was not fun for the parents but we managed. For the fourth we headed into town and watched the parade, hit the Red Mesa for lunch and then took a long drive around the lake so that the girls could take a nap. It was a hot day so the air conditioned car was a good napping place. After the drive we stopped at our friends the Jasper's cottage and visited for a bit before heading back to the cottage to get ready for fireworks. We sat on the lawn at the cottage and watched the fireworks and then headed straight to bed. Monday morning we packed our car and headed home. It was a great weekend with beautiful weather and fun with family and friends.
