It's hard to believe you are 3 years old! It is the night of your 3rd birthday, and boy was it packed with fun! Last year, daddy took you to Meijer Gardens for your birthday because mommy was in the hospital waiting to have Eloise. This year we were able to spend the entire day together having fun and enjoying your presence (while watching you open yours). December 22, 2010 went like this:
5:00am you snuck into our bed and slept next to daddy, who didn't know you were there until almost 7:00am. You cuddled with mommy and daddy while we talked about the plan for the day beginning with a decision on what to eat for breakfast. You decided, "Pancakes!" Blueberry pancakes it was, followed by the opening of your first present, a coloring book with markers. We colored for awhile, then decided we should open the rest of your presents. You got all kinds of new things to play with; a puzzle, art supplies, a new movie, a new book, and a new plasma car! I can't believe how fast you learned how to use the plasma car. You jumped on it, and off you went, taking mommy for rides, having Elie chase you. You had a lot of fun throughout the day with all of your new gifts.
After quiet time, we were all ready for a special night in downtown Grand Rapids! Grandma and Grandpa Kubizna watched Eloise so you could have mommy and daddy's full attention for one night. We started at the Rosa Parks ice rink. For never putting ice skates on, you did very well. You never fell!!!!! You weren't sure about the ice, so you needed a little help from a special piece of equipment and mommy. After ice skating we went to Friday's for dinner. You were such a big girl at the restaurant. You colored intently while waiting for our drinks, and then ordered your own dinner (pasta and fries). Unlike dinners of recent past, you actually ate all of the pasta and then ate your fries. The weird thing is, you didn't want to finish your fries?!? Mom and Dad looked at each other and said, "3 going on 13!" You also got a birthday dessert which you requested plain vanilla ice cream and ate all of it!" This was really one of the easiest times we have ever had in a restaurant with you in 3 years!
It was almost 7:00pm and daddy had arranged for a carriage ride through downtown. After a few snapshots in front of the horse (Lady), we sat down in the carriage and all drank our hot chocolate. It was fun riding around downtown G.R. looking at lights, people walking on the street, watching people ice skate, and riding over and along the river. It was very cold outside and a little breezy by the river, but the hot chocolate and the blankets kept us warm. Lady brought us back to the spot where she picked us up at and you posed for a few more pics before we headed over for one more picture, the big Christmas tree by the skating rink! After a great time downtown, we headed back home.
The celebration of your 3rd birthday will be one to remember. We always hear, "they grow up so fast." Well, it's true! You are growing up extremely fast! We cherish every moment we get to spend with you! You have brought great joy in our lives and we are blessed to have you for a daughter. Happy 3rd Birthday Cecelia!!!
