What does this all mean, she is growing but not gaining weight.  The doctor was hoping to see her at least at or above 17 pounds which was not the case.  After asking us how she is eating and we said not very well, he gave us a referral to the spectrum health feeding clinic with a diagnosis of failure to thrive.  After reading online some information on the condition of failure to thrive I learned this is very generic diagnosis and has a multitude of different causes.  "A child is failing to thrive when she is not growing at the expected rate for her age, or if her weight is disproportionately low compared to her height and head circumference." We do not feel there is any other reason for her lack of weight gain other than she doesn't have much of an interest in eating.  This has been a struggle with her since birth.  We had a referral to the feeding clinic when we were first trying to feed her solids but ended up not going since she started to eat for us.  The doctor said they will work with us on not specifically getting her to eat but learning what she will eat and how to add more fat and calories to those foods.  It will be a complete change in mindset when feeding Eloise than when feeding the rest of the family.  Things like cooking chicken and veggies in canola oil will add the fat to foods that Eloise likes to eat.  Right now she really likes vegetables but I don't put anything on them since that is the way the rest of the family eats.  We do give her a packet of carnation instant breakfast every morning in her milk so we know she is getting the nutrition she needs for the day.  From there anything she eats is added nutrition.  We just need to find ways to get more calories and fat in her meals which is where the feeding clinic will help.

Eloise's motor skills continue to increase.  She is cruising around the furniture much faster and walks around the room holding onto her car or push cart.  She can stand by herself for very short periods of time but has not attempted to walk yet.  Her verbal skills are also increasing.  She chats quite often and we have noticed a change in the consonants she uses.  She can say dada, mama and ball.  I think I even heard her say dog the other day when she was watching Baby Einstein.  We have moved her out of her infant carrier (yes we still had her in a carrier at 1 year, it was nice to protect against the cold weather and easier to get her in and out of the car in the winter) and into a regular car seat, rear facing of course.  Even if the new recommendation for kids to be rear facing until the age of 2 did not come out, with the rate of Eloise's weight she will probably be rear facing until well after 2 since the old recommendation was at least 20 pounds and 1 year old before turning the kids around:)
HER FAVORITE THINGS RIGHT NOW
Loves playing with any ball

Exploring toys

Pushing her car around the house

Pulling the magnetic letters off the fridge and throwing them on the floor
Being cute!!

Thanks Kelly, that would be great. I don't know when we are going yet. The clinic will call us after they get the referral from the doctors office. Last time we were referred it was about two weeks after the appointment before they called.
