Dairy Discovery

On April 18th, Dad had the opportunity to take Cecelia to a school field trip to Dairy Discovery in Alto, MI.  We started the day on the farm in the barn.  There Cecelia was able to pet a baby goat, play in a corn pit, play hide and seek with her friends in the hay maze, and of course, fall in love with the kittens. :)

After fun in the barn, we walked over to the largest facility where they kept a majority of cows and fed them.   Cecelia had the chance to feed the cows their snack.  The crazy thing is that she wasn't scared of this animal that is 50x the size she is!!!  After we fed the big cows, we moved over to the baby calves.  There Cecelia was able to feed 2 different calves what they called their "snack."  Apparently they love to drink warm water.  Next, we moved back to the barn where the kiddo's ate their lunch.  And of course because they were having so much fun and couldn't take their eyes off the kittens, they ate very little!

Finally, We took a stroll over to the milking room.  The guide (who was also a family member on the farm) did a great job entertaining and educating the kids all morning, and had some extra fun in milking room.  She was really accurate with squirting the kids with the cow's udder and even gave a few a taste of the milk straight from the udder!!! The kids thought this was pretty funny.  After showing them where the milk goes (onto the truck) we finished the trip with a final hay ride throughout the rest of farm.  It was a good way to finish the tour of the farm.  It was a fun day for Cecelia and I, and I look forward to going with her on more of her field trips.   :)
