Heading to Another Appointment

It is Thursday morning and I am getting ready to go from my NST and AFI at the specialists this morning. With the current weather conditions here my parents offered to take Cecelia over night last night so that I wouldn't have to drive so much in the morning on bad roads and also so Cecelia could sleep in. It does take quit a load off for me in the morning only having to get myself ready. This week has been a crazy week already so the rest was much needed. I had a NST at St. Mary's on Monday which was scheduled for 1:15p. They were a bit behind so I did not get started until around 2:15p. Then, as usual, the baby did not want to cooperate and give them the readings they wanted. I found out that the criteria for NST's change once you pass 32 weeks. They now have to see two spikes in the baby's heartbeat of 15 points in a 20 minute time span. So if they baby's heart rate is normal at 140 it has to go to 155 or above and drop back down to 140 twice within the 20 minutes. If it does not the test keeps going. So at around 4pm when they did not get their reading they set me down to radiology for a biometric feedback ultrasound. This was the same procedure I had after my amniocentesis when the baby did not show them what they wanted on the NST. The ultrasound tech is looking for 4 things for the baby to do in a 30 minute time span. Just like the previous time they were able to get 3 of the 4 and were not able to see the baby practicing breathing which is shown by the diaphragm moving for 30 seconds. So I went back up to labor and delivery and waited to hear what they wanted to do. They said the amnio fluid levels were good at 15 and everything looked good but since they did not get all the results they needed I had to come back on Tuesday afternoon for a repeat stress test. So back in I went on Tuesday. I decided I was going to try something new to see if they baby would respond so on my way in to the test I stopped at McDonald's and purchased a medium chocolate shake. I was thinking the cold, sugar and chocolate might help get the baby moving and guess what, it worked!!! I was in and out in 30 minutes with the results they wanted. So I have decided that I will be having a shake from McDonald's before every NST, not a bad treat:) Because I wasn't sure if McDonald's sold their shakes in the morning I bought one last night, put it in the freezer and it is now sitting on my counter thawing. So that is where we are right now. Cecelia and I had a very nice day yesterday due to the weather. We stayed in the entire day. I was able to get a lot done including wrapping all our Christmas presents. It was a much needed day for both Cecelia and I. I even went and got a pregnancy massage last night to help relax a bit. So today I feel a bit recharged and ready for this next appointment.

It's funny you say that about the shake. I remember many times sitting in my NSTs and the nurse would go get me a juice box to get the girls moving. :) Glad you found something that worked!
